Nominations Thursday, 18.Jan.24 • Awards Sunday 18.Feb.24

Notes from Rich: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is the top tier of talent in the UK, so their awards mean something, and the voters are loosely equivalent to Ampas (aka the Oscars) in the US. That said, Bafta continues to tinker with its voting system, so their nominees and winners are becoming more distinctive.

This year's nominees are full of quirks, with extra love for Saltburn and less than expected for Barbie. That said, Margot and Ryan are in there, but what happened to Andrew Scott, Lily Gladstone and Greta Lee? There are also unusually strong showings for The Holdovers and Anatomy of a Fall. This year's winners list looks a lot more in line with expectations for Oscar night than in previous ceremonies - with lots of love for Oppenheimer, Emma Stone and Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
