Hmmm. You can't help but wonder, when you see a film like Honest, whether the people involved actually read the script before joining the cast and crew. Despite the presence of cowriters Clement and La Frenais (The Commitments, Still Crazy), the script is dire, without a hint of intelligence, wit or believability. And the three central characters are played by members of the pop group All Saints, who should probably stick to their day job.

It's swinging '60s London, where Tommy Chase's (Cosmo) three daughters Gerry, Mandy and Jo (Nicole, Natalie and Melanie) have embarked on a crime spree dressed as young men. Soon Gerry is entwined with a counterculture magazine journalist (Facinelli), while the other sisters get on with the business of annoying some really big crime bosses. Drug trips and hijinks ensue.

We don't really need yet another London crime comedy, do we? And we certainly don't need one as ineptly assembled as this film. There's not a single convincing bit of dialogue or plotting in the whole film, despite the assured visual style of director-cowriter Stewart (yes, the Eurythmic), who does at least create a terrific texture on screen. And while Facinelli is at least watchable in what emerges as the central role, the Appletons and Blatt are simply not strong enough actors to hold up such a flimsy story that tries to be gritty, breezy and romantic, but fails on each front. And with a string of climactic sequences and false endings as everyone learns life lessons, these 105 minutes feel more like four hours.
